Discovering and sampling good food and drink is central to how much our visitors enjoy a break away. Luckily for visitors and for us, this area of Wales has plenty of world renown producers.
Our cooking style is ‘home-made’ hospitality – good honest ingredients turned into something wonderful and we treasure seeing our food enjoyed. We take these ingredients, use a little thought and put in a lot of love. We effortlessly cater around wheat, gluten and dairy intolerances but like to have consistency at serving time so ask for essential requirements rather than preferences, with plenty of notice given.
We use fresh seasonal ingredients from our own garden or the best local suppliers. All meat and fish is locally sourced with minimum food miles. Home-made chutneys, jams and marmalades are always available to buy and are served at breakfast time.
We now have built an ‘upcycled’ mobile wood fired Pizza wagon which we have run very successfully since 2015, both with our regular monthly Pizza nights with music which attract 50 to 100 locals and Pizza nights the evening before a wedding. There are 4 or 5 choices using seasonal ingredients from the polytunnel and yummy puds. The success and response to both of these has thrilled us!
By eating local food, you’re avoiding any unnecessary food miles and lightening the load in your car. We can provide organic veg boxes with organic free range eggs for your arrival or we have some great local shops in our bustling local market town of Newcastle Emlyn which has it all, from gift shops to grocers. Besides two supermarkets, there is a bakery, deli, health-food shop, butchers, fishmongers, organic green grocers (Carrot Cruncher), a fantastic health food shop (Riverside Health) and at least a handful of cafes to stop in after all that shopping! Further afield there is a good organic veg shop in Lampeter – organic fresh food company , and a couple of whole food stores in Carmarthen – Waverley Stores and Aardvark.
Nearly every weekend, in the summer season, there’s a food festival somewhere in Wales. The Garden of Wales’ food fair is at the end of May. Newcastle Emlyn holds its food fair in June. Pembrokeshire Fish Week is at the end of June. Carmarthen food fair is in July, as is St David’s Really Wild food festival. There are lots more see the discover Carmarthen website for details.
Visit the local country markets or farmers markets for produce, baking, crafts and plants. We can recommend local food and drink producers many of which supply us directly see our current shop list and prices.
