Come and learn to make felt inspired by the colours and textures of the landscape. This will take place in the Old Dairy at Ceridwen Centre, a gorgeous eco venue on 40 acres of organic farmland in Carmarthenshire, West Wales. You will learn the basics of felt-making and how to turn your creation into a wall hanging on a piece of driftwood. There will be plenty of coloured wool tops (non-mulesed) for you to choose from to make your felt piece, and additional texture can be added too, such as yarns, open weave fabric and curly wool locks. You will be able to take your wet felt home with you to dry and then transform it into a wall hanging, if you wish. Please bring a bag with you for transportation.
Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. provided. All equipment and materials supplied.
Ceridwen Centre is less than 2 miles from The National Wool Museum/Amgueddfa Cymru, so if you’re planning a trip from further afield, do visit the museum to get into the spirit of all things woolly. There is unique accommodation at Ceridwen Centre, if you would like to check it out. It will also be the first day of the annual Arts in Ceridwen exhibition, so there will be much visual inspiration for you to enjoy.
Materials and equipment, as well as hanging thread and driftwood will be provided, although you may like to beach comb for your own. Please bring a rolling pin or thick wooden dowling for rolling your wet felt, as part of the felting process. Also you will need to bring an old towel. There will be plenty of visual resources to help inspire you, including images by other feltmakers. You will be given an information sheet with some historical context, as well as links to feltmaking resources.
